Montana Tucker | Dancing for Peace: My Journey Through Israel’s Resilience and Unity

A Warm Welcome in Jerusalem

As I step off the plane in Jerusalem, the energy is palpable. The warm embrace of the Israeli people envelops me, their appreciation for my support is evident in every smile and handshake. It’s my second visit since October 7th, and the country’s spirit of resilience continues to amaze me.

The Hostage Rally: A Night of Unity

Last night, I had the honor of singing Hatikvah, Israel’s national anthem, at the hostage rally in Tel Aviv. The square was packed, a sea of faces united in their demand for the safe return of those still held captive. As I stood there, surrounded by the collective voice of a nation, I couldn’t help but wonder why the rest of the world wasn’t screaming just as loudly.

The Incomprehensible Hostage Situation

The hostage situation defies comprehension. Holocaust survivors, who’ve already endured unimaginable horrors, are once again in captivity. It’s a stark reminder that the phrase “Never Again” isn’t just a slogan – it’s a call to action that resonates now more than ever.

Bridging Art and Activism

This trip is different from my last. While December’s visit was heavy with the weight of survivors’ stories, this time I’m on a mission to showcase Israel’s vibrant diversity through dance and music. I believe these universal languages can speak volumes when words fail us.

Honoring Survivors Through Dance

At the Nova site, we performed a dance dedicated to the survivors, honoring their strength and resilience. Today, we danced at the Tower of David, bringing together people of all faiths in a beautiful display of unity. This is the Israel I want the world to see – a place where different religions, ethnicities, and cultures coexist in harmony.

Combating Misinformation and Hate

The rise of anti-Semitism online is alarming, and it’s only getting worse. Propaganda spreads like wildfire, distorting the truth and fueling hatred. That’s why I’m here, boots on the ground, to show the world the reality of life in Israel.

Eye-Opening Experiences on College Campuses

My experiences on U.S. college campuses have been eye-opening and, frankly, disheartening. At UCLA, I encountered students chanting slogans they didn’t understand, supporting causes without comprehending the implications. We must combat this ignorance with facts and firsthand experiences.

Echoes of the Past

As the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, I can’t help but draw parallels between the horrors of the past and the challenges we face today. My grandfather’s stories of childhood friends turning on him overnight, spitting, and calling him a “dirty Jew,” are chillingly similar to incidents we’re seeing now.

The Ongoing Fight Against Anti-Semitism

“Never Again” isn’t just a phrase – it’s a commitment we must uphold every single day. The world needs to wake up and recognize that the fight against anti-Semitism and hatred is far from over.

A Call to Unity

As I prepare to leave Israel, my heart is full of hope and determination. I’m grateful to the Combat Anti-Semitism Movement for making this trip possible and for their tireless efforts in the fight against hatred.

A Message of Hope and Action

My message to everyone reading this is simple: Join us. Regardless of your religion, race, or ethnicity, we must stand united against terrorism and hate. Through dance, music, and honest dialogue, we can bridge divides and create a more peaceful world. As I board my flight home, I carry with me the resilience, unity, and unwavering spirit of the Israeli people. Their strength in the face of adversity is a lesson for us all. Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can ensure that “Never Again” truly means never again.
