A World Turned Upside Down
My life was good, a normal Jewish life in Odessa. Then, the bombs woke me up to a new reality. I couldn’t imagine leaving my family and friends, but for my children’s sake, I knew I had to act.
Hope Arrives
On the third day of the war, the Jewish Agency appeared like a lifeline. They helped us reach Israel, and the excitement on my children’s faces was a beacon of hope.
Finding Home
For two months, we lived in a Jerusalem hotel. It was tough at first, but kindness surrounded us. Slowly, the feeling of being alone faded. Israel was opening its arms.
Building a New Beginning
They helped me find an apartment, a safe haven for my family. With their support, I enrolled my children in a Jewish school, a foundation for their future.
Learning and Growing
The journey wasn’t easy. It took a month to reach Israel, the Hungarian border being the most challenging part. But on arrival, a warm embrace from Sahmut volunteers erased the fear. They were waiting for us, and that made all the difference.
Now, I’m living with relatives, actively seeking an apartment, and eagerly awaiting my Hebrew classes. My children are happy, and I’m building a new social life. Israel is finally home.
The Power of Kindness
The idea of living in Israel was always appealing, but now it’s a necessity. The overwhelming kindness I’ve encountered here amazes me. People who haven’t experienced our suffering opened their hearts. It’s a testament to the deep humanity within them.
Gratitude and Hope
I am eternally grateful to the Jewish Agency, Keren Hayesod. So, the Minister of Absorption, and the people of Israel. They are performing miracles. My short time here has been a heaven on earth.
Thank you. Now, I understand the true meaning of humanity.
