Who are the hostages still in the hands of Hamas?
May 8, 2024 The Israeli government has released a detailed list of the 132 hostages still being held by Hamas in Gaza. The list includes 117 Israelis and 11 foreign nationals, including citizens from Thailand, Nepal, Tanzania, and France. The hostages were kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, 2022, and since then, 124 have been rescued or freed through various means. However, 38 of the hostages are confirmed to have lost their lives, and one Israeli woman is still classified as missing.
The list includes two Israeli children, Ariel and Kfir Bibas, who are under the age of 5, and two Israeli soldiers, Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul, whose bodies were taken by Hamas during the 2014 Gaza war. Israel is negotiating for the release of their remains, which could be part of a larger hostage deal.
The remaining hostages include two Israeli men who crossed into Gaza – Avera Mengistu, who is mentally unstable, and Hisham al-Sayed, who has been held since 2015. Despite the challenges and setbacks, Israel is working to secure the release of these hostages and bring an end to this humanitarian crisis.
